The City of Terre Haute has completed a Trails Planning Project with funding from the Indiana State Department of Health. With this grant, the City has developed a plan to accomplish the goals that the community has established, including:

Review the Plan

  • Chapter 1: Introduction

    This chapter provides an overview of the planning process, engagement opportunities, benefits of bike and pedestrian travel, and the plan organization. A strategy focusing on the 5 E’s of biking and pedestrian planning is identified to advance walking and biking in Terre Haute.

  • Chapter 2: Existing Conditions Analysis

    This chapter reviews prior planning efforts, community data, and findings from the public survey/interactive map. These findings helped determine the recommendations for the projects, programs, and policies outlined within this plan.

  • Chapter 3: Vision, Goals, and Objectives

    This chapter provides an overview of the trail plan framework, which includes the vision statement, goals, and objectives that serve as the foundation for the strategic recommendations found in the next chapter.

  • Chapter 4: Strategic Recommendations

    This chapter suggests recommendations for the development of a bike and pedestrian system in Terre Haute including overall system, design standards, and key policy recommendations.

  • Chapter 5: Implementation

    This chapter provides additional details regarding the implementation of the recommendations identified as part of the bike and pedestrian plan. This section outlines key project priorities, identifies short, mid, and long-term as well as resources and basic planning level costs.
